EVENTS

2 - Day Workshop scheduled for Sept. 29 & 30th, 2014 at the Eastern Shore Arts Center, Fairhope, Alabama.

Windows and Doorways - How to transform your photo into a successful painting. A watercolor workshop with Nancy Barry.    September 29, 30, 9:30 - 3:30pm.  $185, $175 Family members and above. We have all seen them, beautiful windows or doorways that beckon us to step inside, some comforting, many quite intriguing. Over the years, these have been some of my favorite subject matter to photograph and to paint. In this 2-Day workshop, we will go through the ‘thinking process’  of transforming a photo into a successful painting; how to edit your snapshot, learning what to keep and what to leave out, how to create visual and special perspective and how to render the many textures and surfaces we find within the hardscape around us. You will learn how to create brick, stone, pottery, foliage, window reflections and more.

Watercolor Classes with Nancy Barry

I will again offer Fall Watercolor Classes at the Artists Guild Gallery of Greenville for both Intermediate and Beginner Level. Intermediate classes begin Tues. Sept 18th and Beginner classes begin on Wed Sept 19th.
Class description, fees and full schedule are as follows:

Intermediate Level –  Architectural features in the landscape – Focus on 3 point Perspective
Class fee is $145 for the 7 weeks. Returning Students will receive a 20% discount on class fees.

Offering 2 class times for Intermediate:
Tues (afternoon), Sept 18 through October 30th: 1:30 – 3:30pm
Tues (evening), Sept 18 through October 30th: 6:30 - 8:30 pm

From cityscapes and small gardens to all manner of landscape painting, architectural features are often incorporated into our paintings in the form of garden walls, fences & gates, windows and doorways, beach houses, row houses, storefronts, etc. But the perspective can be daunting when drawing these features.

This class will focus on perspective & how to draw these architectural features correctly, and then render them in watercolor, in your style. Note: this class is 7 weeks long, instead of 6. The first 2 classes we will be drawing; we will go over 3-point perspective the first evening, and then complete our drawings the second night, leaving 5 weeks to complete your painting in class.  Subject matter/photo will be a Charleston Row House scene and will be emailed with registration.

Beginner Level - Wed, Sept 19th through Tues, Oct 25th Time: 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Class fee is $135 for 6 weeks. Returning students will receive discount.

Watercolor, where to start? I will start you off by talking about basic materials; paper, brushes & paint, and we will set up your palette. We will explore basic brush handling, blending and shadowing, controlling water, mixing paint, and glazing, amongst other techniques. As you work through the class compositions, you will explore your own use of color and this beautiful medium.  Recommended drawing skills as you will do some drawing in class. Please let me know if you have some level of experience when you register for this class. Supply list emailed with registration.
